Master's degree graduation ceremony 2024
On Friday 29 November 2024, the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences celebrated this year's Master's degree graduation ceremony. Congratulations to our successful graduates!
The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Olivier Bachmann, Deputy Head of Department, and featured an inspiring keynote address by Giovanni Kappenberger. His talk, Some Thoughts on the Last Second of ‘Earth’s History in a Year’", captivated the audience.
An ETH Zurich alumnus, Kappenberger completed his degree in natural sciences with a thesis on glaciology. After over 30 years as a meteorologist with MeteoSwiss, he remains actively engaged in glaciology through projects like the Clariden Firn and Basodino Glacier mass balance measurements.
Awards
Prof. Heather Stoll, Director of Studies at D-EAPS, presented this year’s awards.
Lennart Kira received both the ETH Medal for his outstanding Master's thesis and the ETH Willi Studer Prize for exceptional academic performance in a D-EAPS Master's programme. Achieving an average grade of 5.93, Kira's thesis, supervised by PD Dr. Jérôme Noir, earned him the ETH Medal 2024.
