The departmental office (“Stab”) consists of the Department Coordinator and Controller, the Study Coordinator, the Study Administration, PR & Marketing, Administration as well as IT and Web.
Administrative and organisational management
Department Coordination and Controlling
Friederike Brütsch is responsible for the operational and administrative management of the department, supports the Head of Department and takes over duties in connection with the management of the department. This includes strategic and operational planning, strategic controlling, staff management, the professors' and department conference, professorships from appointment to retirement, infrastructure management, quality management, and organisational development.
Doctoral studies, teaching and study affairs
Study Administration Office
Stephen Arpagaus is responsible for the course scheduling and the teaching assignments of the Bachelor's degree programme and the Master's degree programmes in the department. In this role, he is the contact person for lecturers in the department. He also advises Bachelor's students on general questions about the degree programme as well as examinations, grades, diploma applications and the military service.
Doctorate and Study Administration
Mirjam Kandler is responsible for the coordination of the doctoral studies in cooperation with the Doctoral Committee. She supports doctoral students from the admission procedure through the aptitude colloquium to the doctoral examination. In addition to coordinating the programme, she advises students and lecturers on study and examination-related topics, as well as on regulatory issues concerning study deadlines and degrees.
Study Coordination
Karin Mellini supports the Director of Studies and is the contact person for teaching-related matters. She is responsible for tasks such as assisting with the further development of the curriculum and amendments to the study regulations, managing the Teaching Committee and the Master's Admissions Committee. In addition to advising prospective students, students and lecturers, she is in close contact with Academic Services.
Educational Developer
Adrian Gilli is the departmental contact person for various teaching topics such as innovation management, curriculum development, faculty development and support services in teaching and learning operations. A core task is to advise and support lecturers in the development, use and maintenance of electronic learning materials and teaching/learning technologies.
Departmental affairs
Department Administration
Sonja Roos supports the Department Coordinator and the Head of Department in the financial management of the department and in administrative matters. She is responsible for the operational controlling within the department, contributes to budget planning, organises the distribution and control of funds, monitors the cost control of the areas of responsibility, and prepares the quarterly and annual financial statements of the department. In addition to collecting data and information for periodic financial tasks, she accompanies the active reserve management of the department, institutes and groups.
Public Relations
Silvia Kos is responsible, in cooperation with the Head of Department, for PR & Marketing in the department, the planning, organisation, and implementation of external and internal events (Scientifica, ETH on the road, study information days, taster days, etc.) as well as for visual communication and design (e.g. brochures and posters). She works closely with Corporate Communications and the Study Coordinator.
IT Service Manager (ISL) and Information Security Officer (ISO)
Mevluet Polat is responsible for IT services at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, coordinates and supports the IT Administrators in the institutes and groups, and is the link to central IT Services. Furthermore, he is the responsible ISO person of the department.
Web Coordinator
André Vock is responsible for the maintenance and continuous development of the departmental website, intranet and web applications. He advises and supports the institutes and professorships in case of technical questions in connection with the web content management system and the development of new websites.
