Research area

Gregory de Souza studies the natural cycles of nutrient elements in the ocean. These "biogeochemical" cycles are controlled by interactions between physical, biological and chemical processes. His research seeks to extract process information from the distributions of important nutrient elements in the ocean. To this end, he uses mass-spectrometric methods to study the marine silicon cycle through the distribution of its stable isotopes. Complementarily, he employs computationally efficient methods to construct three-dimensional models of the marine cycles of micronutrients such as zinc.
