Sara is currently a doctoral student in the Seismology and Wave Physics group at ETH Zurich. She completed her Bachelor at University College Roosevelt in the Netherlands with a focus on Earth Science and obtained her Master in Geophysics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in 2020. She wrote her Master thesis in the group of Seismology and Wave Physics under supervision of Prof. Andreas Fichtner which involved distributed acoustic sensing on Mount Meager in Canada.

Her research focuses on using distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) as a potential volcano monitoring tool. This involves experiments in various volcanic environments (i.e., Iceland, Santorini, Tenerife) to collect passive datasets, and the development of codes to analyse these large data volumes. The initial focus is on event detection, localisation, and characterisation, which will be followed by Full-Waveform Inversion with strain data to take the full complexity of the topography and subsurface into account.
