Additional information
Motohiko Murakami received his Bachelor's degree in 1999 from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. After completing his doctorate in 2004, he was a JSPS Research Fellow before being appointed to the faculty at the same institution in 2005. Between 2006 and 2008, He was Assistant Professor at the Okayama University, and has subsequently been Associate Professor at Tohoku University since 2008.
Prof. Murakami’s research is centered on exploring the structure, dynamics and evolution of the Earth's interior through the development and application of novel high-pressure and high-temperature experiments combined with in-situ synchrotron X-ray and spectroscopic analyses. The Experimental Mineral Physics group will add crucial strength in mineralogy and mineral physics, a longstanding research and teaching focus within our department, and a fundamental component of the Earth Sciences.
