Bedretto Underground Laboratory for Geosciences and Geoenergies
The BedrettoLab at ETH Zurich is dedicated to research in the fields of earthquake physics and prediction, geothermal energy and the development of sensors.
The Bedretto Underground Laboratory for Geosciences and Geoenergies (BedrettoLab) led by Prof. Domenico Giardini, Prof. Stefan Wiemer and Prof. Hansruedi Maurer is a research infrastructure of ETH Zurich, where different groups conduct together with national and international partners experimental research. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the BedrettoLab offers ideal conditions for studies focusing on the behaviour of the deep underground. At the BedrettoLab, researchers gain new scientific knowledge in areas such as geothermal energy, earthquake physics and the development of innovative techniques and sensors.
The BedrettoLab is located in the Swiss Alps, 1.5 kilometres below the surface and in the middle of a 5.2 kilometre long tunnel connecting the Ticino with the Furka railway tunnel.
